@DEAFASLVLOGS I’m not saying that it should be that way, but it usually works out that way — Deaf agency: Gov’t/State-run, lower money Hearing agency: for profit, motivation to satisfy customer higher, etc. Understand what I mean? But you didn’t pay for Hearing agency — so how does the Hearing agency get its money? I want to understand the dynamics.

  • DEAFASLVLOGS says:

@DrDonGCSUS Are you telling me if I pay for the service, I will get better service, if I don’t pay for the service, I will get lousy service? It’s sad to see some people think that way. It is sad to see some people would think that way… VEISD paid for the Deaf Agency that runs by audistic hearing people and you think it is normal for the agency not to do their good job. Where did you get this information? The answer is NO.. I didn’t pay for Hearing agency. Shocking, isn’t it?

  • DrDonGCSUS says:

Wow! Very interesting comparison of Deaf and Hearing employment agencies.

Just one question…. did you have to pay for the service at the Hearing agency compared to the Deaf agency? That may make a difference in their approach and level of service.

Excellent vlog… Ahem, the VR system in State of Washington are more of primarily focused in working with Deaf PLUS citizens (DD, blind, autistic, or/any other disabilities PLUS “tiny” deaf…). They are always have been on the top priority for VR services. We, so-called normal Deaf people are on the least “bottom” list, if we sit, we are in idle mode forever, well almost… If I have found a good job, VR would be more than happy to jump in, sometimes faster than in the beat of a heart…

    Hi DeafMommy,

I wouldn’t delete your comment for no reason. I had to remove youtube video that you left comment because youtube Video kept on switching to private where people couldn’t view it. I had to upload the video again. :)

  • deafmommy says:

Hi, i posted a text comment but it is not there. I hope you didn’t delete it? Anyway, you have a good point. VR and job services for the deaf tend to be free so their services are not as competitive as the regular ones. One deaf friend always got high paying job, I asked him how, he said he always hired a headhunter, when a headhunter found him a job, the company would pay them a hefty commission fee. Perhaps VR should be competitive with them.

Aidan, you now know something. While I was a job coach for the Allies Inc under DVR for 15 months, I had visited and mentored several Deaf employees working at the retail stores like WalMart, Walgreens etc. Prior to that, I was a Software Engineer at Verizon for 31 yrs, so, I decided to have a college degree and wanted to help them achieve their employment goal. Most of them did not have college degrees or trainings. They are not fully nurtured with better education. That is sad.

I wanted to add something that you mentioned about Deaf services tend to place deaf individual to work at Kmart, Walmart, Target, Warehouse such as blue collar jobs. Even Lions Club with deaf/blind workers and Mexicans…FYI

    Hello Aidan,

Sad, Lousy service for deaf VR.. My friend did went there and apply for job and u know what they put my friend at mental retard job.. My friend feel not right what she want.. and She got lousy paycheck.. only 30 dollar a week and my friend decided quit job and look for job on her own! Same as my husband did tried and they are not good service and He decided on his own and look for job and found job and good pay! That why We stop depend on VR.. Lousy!!

  • CharlestheRogue says:

That’s what I am trying to explain to people about VR, Employment service for the Deaf…I felt lot of better once you explained the similar story I had. Beautiful job!!!!!

  • bbdqsony says:

Yep I have to say you are right. I went to Employment Services for the Deaf when i was 17. The office was sleazy the computer was very old prolly 10-20 year old. And they have no idea on how to help you to find the job that you are looking for. But they may put you behind grill flipping burger or mopping restrooms. I ended up walking out during meeting muttering cuss words. Went to normal Agent office and they were very professional and I got job within 3 weeks.

My goodness, Aidan. I feel bad for those who went that “oh no” agency before you. non-leveled resume? Oh man.

I work at employment agency and it does take about an hour to an hour and half with each person going through resources, resume, assessment and etc.

I agree with deafchipmunk and in your vlog, though that we must never HELP but to encourage, etc.

    Cheers,
    Kathryn

    Aidan,

Excellent vlog… Yes I definitely agree with you… it is very important to empower unemployed Deaf people by providing them any update and competitive resources to motivate them to seek jobs withint their goal or long term goal. NEVER NEVER nurture them… let them learn and do naturally whatever possible. Beautifully educational discussion!
